The Prism 2023 Sailing Calendar features 67 poems, large or small, written by Prism Poets about sailing, boats, ships, and vessels of all kinds, about the oceans, lakes, rivers, beaches, waves… some of them metaphorical of life or emotions.
Twelve months and a cover, all feature a few poems on a sailing background…
January
Frozen air and still, mirror-like lake… everything seems asleep, and poems reflect on time, nature and tranquillity in this perfect winter setting.
February
Romantic and loving… although sometimes disappointing… February is the month of Romance, on a Venitian background.
March
With the arrival of spring, March looks like smooth sailing on a peaceful, almost waveless lake…
April
Even with its infamous showers, April might be the best time of the year to go roaming again, whether walking around a lake, enjoying the blossoming cherry trees, meditating in an old church, or sailing on an adventure trip…
May
The sea and ships awake dreams of adventure, long-ago memories, or more philosophical considerations… but never leave a poet without inspiration.
June
With summer knocking on the door, every poet seems to be on a sailing adventure…
July
In July, some poets dream of sandy beaches and exhilarating explorations, while others contemplate memories.
August
More contemplations of beaches, oceans and intensely blue skies in August, as our poets enjoy summer!
September
September comes, with some philosophical thoughts and dreams… and a little light humour too!
October
Who knew the oceans could turn the colour of autumn too? It is time for some ghost-ship stories and glorious sunsets.
November
November’s foggy atmosphere brings tales of sea adventures that might be told around the stove on winter nights, with a definite tint of quietness and hope for renewal.
December
In winter, when only Santa is sailing by, it is time to explore the Aussie oceans (or not), or to tell snowy and humorous tales of the Northern Hemisphere.
