How many weeks in a month?

How many weeks in a month? In twelve months? In a calendar?
It’s more complicated than you think.

A perfect four-week month is a rare occurrence: only every few years does a 28-day February begin on the first day of the week, which can be Monday or Sunday, according to where you live and the calendar you buy!
In any other case, the month occupies five weeks on a calendar page, sometimes six!

See what I mean?

Squeezing six weeks into a grid that could be used in better ways feels like a self-imposed burden.

So… how do you design a calendar?
Organise by weeks, as many businesses and planning systems do?
Or by month, as accountants do?
Vertically or horizontally?

Good question. Glad you asked!
